UPDATE: Base Jumper Injured at Bridge Day; Name Released

FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- National Park Service officials tell WSAZ.com Christopher Ryan Brewer was seriously injured after jumping from the New River Gorge Bridge.

Jeff West with the National Park Service says Brewer sustained a spinal cord, pelvic and lung injuries after his parachute either did not open or did not fully open when he jumped from the bridge Saturday.

Brewer, who is 27 years old, was taking part in Bridge Day festivities held in Fayette County every year.

West says the incident is still under investigation. At this time park officials are reviewing video of the jump. Officials also hope to speak to Brewer about what happened.

Brewer, who is from Pensacola, Florida, is listed in stable condition at Charleston Area Medical Center.

The jumper was taken to the hospital after jumping off the New River Gorge Bridge.
