HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- No matter how you feel about Black Friday, retail experts say there are a few things you should keep in mind while on your quest for the biggest bargain of the holiday shopping season.
"Black Friday is a very good day to shop," Bargain shopping expert Miriam Kamin said, "but people need to remember, it's not the only day to shop."
Kamin is a bargain shopping expert. Her website WantNot.Net points shoppers to the best deals, including on Black Friday.
"While it's a good time to maybe knock out some of your holiday shopping, don't feel that it's the only day and it's a marathon and you've got to get it done," Kamin said.
Experts like Kamin say shoppers should be armed with the secrets behind those Black Friday deals. First, those unbelievable deals are in limited supply. Experts say they are really just bait to get you inside the store.
"Stores do that to drive traffic and to generate interest and to get you to in there," Kamin said. "I would say there will be very few cases that there is one item that is in such demand that Black Friday is the only way you're going to be able to get it at a good price."
Kamin also warns shoppers to watch out for big deals on electronics.
"Generally, what I tell people is the Black Friday deal on electronics tend to be great deals on lesser products," Kamin said. "If you want a good deal on a flat screen TV and don't care what the brand is," Kamin said, "You're likely to get a really good deal on Black Friday. But, if you've done your research, that may not be the day to get it."
The bottom line is shoppers should read the fine print before making any purchase.
"You need to have a plan before going shopping," Kamin said. "I would say that anytime, but particularly on Black Friday."
