UPDATE 9/1/14 @ 5:40 p.m.
KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Police have identified the body found in the Kanawha River on Sunday.

Richard Hanson, 47, of Charleston, was discovered by a 13-year old boy outside of his family's home.

"I was chasing my dog down by the river and I found the dead body," said Nicholas Harris. "I thought it might have been a mannequin that maybe fell off a transport boat or something."

Once Harris realized what he was looking at, he told his parents. At first, they didn't believe him.

"Then they came down here to take a look. Then they called 911 after they realized it was real."

The parents of Richard Hanson tell WSAZ.com that he went missing on Saturday. They were watching the news on Sunday and saw a man's body had been discovered in the river. At that point, they knew it was their son.

Hanson was a lifelong resident of Charleston.

Police have not released a cause of death, saying they're exploring all possibilities. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
