UPDATE 1/17/13 @ 12:15 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man has spent the morning in surgery after he was shot twice early Thursday morning.
Charleston police say Hai Ngyun, 47, was shot in the leg and his chest.
Police are still searching for the shooter.
The shooting happened at Ngyun's home on Oakwood Road about 4:20 a.m. Thursday.
Witnesses told police they heard the suspect demanding money.
The shooting happened in the doorway to the house. That's where detectives found a handgun and hundreds of dollars in cash.
Police do believe the two men knew each other. They say this is not a random act of violence, and there's no reason for them to believe anybody else is in danger.
Police found a crack pipe in the house, and believe the shooting was the result of a robbery and/or a drug deal.
"Due to the amount of cash lying around, and it was scattered as if there had been an altercation, so it appears that the robbery went bad. Shots were fired and the victim was shot twice,” Lieutenant Steve Cooper said.
Police say the victim has two roommates who were there during the shooting. They are giving statements at the police department.
Police do not have a good description of the suspect, but they are actively searching for him.
