CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A place that helps children deal with the trauma of child abuse celebrated a new beginning Tuesday night.

CAMC's Children's Advocacy Center held an open house at its new location along Pennsylvania Avenue in Charleston. It is a safe place for children who may be scared and confused during a very difficult time.

"We have staff that are trained to do interviews properly," said Maureen Runyon with the Advocacy Center. "We have pediatricians who are trained in child abuse, and we are able to do the interview, record the interview so that the child only has to tell the story one time."

The center originally opened in 2005.

It is the first hospital-based center in West Virginia that incorporates all the necessary components for the care and treatment of children suspected to have been abused.
