CONSUMER ALERT: Black Friday Shopping Safety

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- If you plan to head to the mall or even do your Black Friday shopping online, you'll want to be on the lookout for potential scams.

U.S. Attorney General Patrick Morrisey is warning shoppers about grinches trying to steal your gifts and cash.

Here are some tips to make sure you stay safe while checking off your shopping list:

  • Shop in groups.
  • Keep shopping bags hidden in cars.
  • Don't take your credit card out until you need it.
  • Shop only at retailers you know.
  • Don't give your credit card information to anyone you don't know.
  • Check the prices. If it's too good to be true, it probably is.
