CALHOUN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A rash of thefts at car washes in Calhoun County has one business offering a $500 reward for the arrest of the thieves.
Furr’s Auto Sales has had to replace two coin acceptor boxes at their car wash after someone ripped the old ones off the wall with a car and chain.
"Just here we've got probably $2,500 worth of damage to just the boxes and stuff," said Billy Jones of Furr’s Auto Sales.
The thieves got away with a little more than $100 in coins.
"Ever since then I've been cleaning it out everyday -- just trying to keep them to where if they do come back, they ain't going to get nothing," said Jones.
Brad McCroskey brings his truck to Furr’s for a wash twice a week.
"It's the only one around right now, so it's pretty much the only choice we got, and it's kind of the best one," McCroskey said.
That’s because the same thing happened at another car wash just a couple miles away. The hole in the wall from the missing coin acceptor and hanging wires are still evident.
"I think it's pretty chicken and childish of people, you know I don't know what they would get out of it. I'm sure they're desperate, I guess," McCroskey said.
