BUFFALO CREEK, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An artist from Canada is working on a mural to be featured in an upcoming documentary on the Buffalo Creek disaster.
The disaster happened on February 26, 1972, when a coal-waste dam in Logan County collapsed during heavy rain, unleashing millions of gallons of water. A wall of sludge, debris and water came crashing down into the valley below. 125 people were killed and more than 4,000 people were left homeless.
International mural artist Kevin Ledo from Montreal, Canada, is creating a mural at the entrance to Buffalo Creek.
The mural will be featured in a documentary that follows a miracle baby of the flood, Kerry Albright, who comes back home and interviews residents to learn first hand about his incredible past. They hope to wrap up filming next month.
