CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A city employee is behind bars, accused of stealing about $1,000 worth of items he scoped out while on the job.

Charleston Police arrested Christopher Dave Derrick, 38, from Sissonville, Friday night.

Police say Derrick is an employee with the Charleston Parks and Recreation Department.

Detectives say he would scope out the items while working for the city and then come back later to steal them.

They also say he has a notebook where he categorized the dozens of items he took.

Police say he was caught after a domestic situation with a woman who ended up turning him in.
