HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A Charleston Police officer is accused of driving drunk, crashing his car and leaving the scene of an accident in Huntington.

Corporal Steven "Matt" Webb has been charged with misdemeanor DUI 0.150 or under and misdemeanor leaving the scene of an accident.

According to the criminal complaint and police report, Webb, 40, of Huntington, was driving his Jeep in the 100 block of West 6th Avenue in Huntington about 2 a.m. Sunday morning when he hit another vehicle and took off.

The driver of the car that Webb allegedly hit then followed Webb for several blocks around Huntington trying to get him to stop. Police were able to catch up and stop Webb back near where the accident happened.

Huntington Police say Webb was observed with the odor of alcoholic beverage, slurred speech and glassy eyes.

The criminal complaint says Webb blew a .186 on a breathalyzer. The officer said Webb refused a secondary breath test and blood draw.

Documents show that Webb signed himself out after his bond was set at $4000. He is expected to be in court sometime in the next six weeks. No court date has been set at this time.

Charleston Police Chief Brent Webster says Webb is on paid administrative leave.

Another Charleston officer was in the car with Webb when the arrest happened, according to police, but he has not been charged. Chief Webster says that officer has also been place on paid administrative leave.

Webster says they are working with HPD to find out exactly what happened.

Webb has been working for the Charleston Police department for more than 10 years.
