ASHLAND, Ky. (AP) -- Children in eastern Kentucky are creating hand-made Valentine cards to send to soldiers and nursing home residents.
The Boyd County Library sponsors the program called Hands that Touch a Heart. Children are asked to trace or paint their hands on card, then decorate it however they want and add a personal message and their name, according to the Associated Press. All ages are welcome, though parents are asked to assist the very young.
Library spokeswoman Amanda Gilmore says it's a way to make sure as many people as possible are remembered, and it teaches children the importance of giving. She said children made more than 2,000 cards last year.
Materials to make the cards will be available at libraries through Friday.
