LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A coal truck and tanker have collided at the intersection of U.S. 23 and North KY Highway 3 near Louisa, Ky, spilling coal onto the highway.
The accident happened sometime after 2 p.m.
The driver of the coal truck says he was traveling on U.S. 23 when he spotted two vehicles coming into the intersection from Route 3. The driver says to avoid hitting those cars; he swerved and intentionally put his truck on its side. The truck then slid into the side of the tanker.
Two other cars that were stopped at the intersection were hit by the spilling coal.
Two people in those vehicles were hurt and taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The drivers of the trucks were not hurt.
Crews are working to clean up the mess. They should have the intersection cleared before 5 p.m.
