UPDATE: Gallia County Man Agrees to Plea in Major Marijuana Bust

GALLIPOLIS, Ohio (WSAZ) – The Gallia County man arrested after investigators say they found 79 pounds of marijuana at his home has agreed to a plea deal.

Tuesday, Dennis Butcher, 61, pleaded guilty to 3rd degree drug trafficking and was sentenced to 18 months in prison, according to court records.

Two other charges, drug possession and having weapons under disability, were dropped as part of the plea.

Butcher and his wife, Tammy, were arrested in August after investigators in Gallia and Meigs counties received a tip that there was marijuana and cash in their home in the 38000 block of Zuzspan Road near Middleport.

Besides the marijuana, investigators say the found $757,000 in cash and several guns in his home and garage.

The money, along with the guns, and a vehicle could be forfeited as part of the plea agreement.

The plea also dismissed the charges against Butcher’s wife, Tammy.

She was originally charged with trafficking and possession of drugs.

GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) – The Gallia County man arrested after investigators say they found 79 pounds of marijuana at his home has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

On Friday, Dennis Butcher, 61, pleaded not guilty to charges of trafficking and possession of drugs, along with having weapons under disability during a hearing in Gallia County Common Pleas Court. He was indicted last month, along with his wife, Tammy Butcher, 52.

Tammy was charged with trafficking and possession of drugs in the indictment.

The couple was arrested in August after investigators in Gallia and Meigs counties received a tip that there was marijuana and cash in their home in the 38000 block of Zuzspan Road near Middleport.

Besides the marijuana, investigators say the found $757,000 in cash and several guns in his home and garage.

Gallia County Sheriff Joe Browning said the marijuana and money were packaged in a way that shows there is more than a local connection to the drugs. Browning says that he believes the drugs came from out of the country.

According to the original criminal complaint, Dennis admitted the marijuana was his and that he had been selling it.

Dennis Butcher’s trial is set for February. Tammy’s trial is set for late January.

GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A couple has been indicted after 79 pounds of marijuana was found in their home.

A grand jury in Gallia County indicted Dennis Butcher, 61, and Tammy Butcher, 52.

The couple was arrested late last month after investigators in Gallia and Meigs counties received a tip that there was marijuana and cash in the home.

Deputies found 79 pounds of marijuana and $757,000 in cash.

The August grand jury in Gallia County charged Dennis Butcher with trafficking and possession of drugs, along with having weapons under disability.

Tammy Butcher was charged with trafficking and possession of drugs.

GALLIPOLIS, Ohio (WSAZ) – A grand jury will now hear the case of a Middleport man arrested last week after investigators say they found 79 pounds of marijuana, $757,000 in cash and several guns in his home and garage.

On Saturday, the Gallia and Meigs County Sheriff’s Offices conducted a joint raid at the home of Dennis and Tammy Butcher. The home is located in the 38000 block of Zuzspan Road near Middleport.

Deputies arrested both Dennis, 61, and Tammy, 52.

Dennis is charged with complicity to drug trafficking, possession of marijuana, trafficking in marijuana and having a weapon under disability.

Tammy is charged with complicity to drug trafficking.

According to the criminal complaint, Dennis admitted the marijuana was his and that he had been selling the marijuana.

Gallia County Sheriff Joe Browning says the marijuana and money were packaged in a way that shows there is more than a local connection to the drugs. Browning says that he believes the drugs came from out of the country.

The Sheriff also says that Butcher has prior convictions for drug trafficking, including drugs other than marijuana.

Butcher's case was sent to a grand jury following his preliminary hearing Friday morning in Gallipolis Municipal court.

Dennis posted bond and was released from jail following his arraignment on Monday. That bond is $100,000 with 10% cash.

Tammy’s preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday morning. She is also out of jail on bond. Her bond was set at $50,000 with 10% cash.

Sheriff Browning tells WSAZ.com more charges could be filed in the case and that more arrests could be made.

Browning says that there have been several burglaries in the county recently that could be indirectly connected to this marijuana operation. He says people are burglarizing homes and vehicles to get money to buy drugs.

UPDATE: 8/24/13 @ 4:30 p.m.
GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) – A husband and wife are behind bars following a raid where authorities say they seized more than $750,000 in cash, along with more than 100 pounds of packaged marijuana.

The Gallia and Meigs County Sheriff’s Offices conducted the joint raid at the couple’s home on Zuzspan Hollow Road near Middleport about 2 a.m. Saturday.

Deputies arrested Dennis C. Butcher, 61, and Tammy L. Butcher, 52.

Dennis is charged with complicity to drug trafficking, possession of marijuana, trafficking in marijuana and having a weapon under disability.

Tammy is charged with complicity to drug trafficking.

Both people are in the Gallia County Jail.

They are expected to appear in Gallipolis Municipal Court on Monday.

GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Two people were arrested after bales of marijuana were discovered.

Sheriff departments in both Meigs and Gallia counties told WSAZ.com the drug bust went down 12 a.m. Saturday at the county line in Gallia County, in Zuspan Hollow.

They said the marijuana was packaged in a way that it was delivered as bales from out of the country.

Deputies confiscated 100 pounds of marijuana and $500,000 in cash.

Deputies said Dennis Butcher and a woman were arrested.

The woman's name hasn't been released.
