LOGAN, W.Va. (AP) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $6 million contract for the next phase of a flood control project in Logan.
U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall says Heeter Construction, of Spencer, will widen Island Creek's channel from the former Super 8 site to the Logan NAPA Store.
Heeter received a $5.8 million base contract to widen the creek in September 2010.
Rahall says the project's total cost is an estimated $40 million.
The West Virginia Democrat says the creek widening project will protect an estimated 252 homes and businesses from flooding. The project is expected to be completed in about four years.
