UPDATE: Body of Missing Swimmer found in Kanawha River

UPDATE 8/7/12 @ 5:15 p.m.
KANAWHA FALLS, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The body of a man who went missing in the Kanawha River near Gauley Bridge has been found.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Department says they found David Jones' body Tuesday afternoon, about one mile downstream from where he was last seen.

Jones' friends say he was trying to swim across the river on Saturday when he went under the water and never came back up.

He was 47 years old.

KANAWHA FALLS, W.Va. (AP) -- A Fayette County man is missing after he tried to swim across the Kanawha River.

47-year-old David Jones of Powellton disappeared Saturday night while swimming with a group of people in the Kanawha Falls area.

Sheriff's deputies and rescue crews searched the river Sunday but didn't find Jones.

Police say Jones apparently drowned. No foul play is suspected.

Fayette County, W.Va. (WSAZ) --Emergency crews resumed their search for a missing swimmer on the Kanawha River Sunday.

Fayette County Sheriff deputies say the possible drowning happened Saturday night.

They say 47-year-old David Jones, of Powellton, W.Va., was swimming with friends when he disappeared about 8:30pm.

Jones and another male attempted to swim across the river. When the unkown male made it to the other side he could not locate Jones.

Deputies searched for Jones around the area he entered the water but had no luck. They had to call off the search due to dark conditions but resumed at about 8 am Sunday.

Search efforts are continuing at this time.
