UPDATE 12/4/13 @ 6:20 p.m.
BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Some high-priced items were stolen from a school in Boone County, and sheriff's deputies say it was an inside job.

Robert Eskins, a custodian, was arrested and charged with grand larceny. He’s accused of taking four iPads from Sherman High School.

Lisa Daniels lives close to Sherman High School. It may not be where her son goes, but she still had a strong reaction to news of the theft.

“That really infuriates me,” Daniels said.

Deputies say Eskins was trying to sell the iPads, but once he was caught he destroyed them.

“He took the iPads and actually busted them, and threw them in the river behind his home,” Chief Deputy Chad Barker said. “The schools are really trying their best to stay up with technology. They've spent a lot of money in grants to these iPads.”

The average price of an iPad is about $600. Multiply that by four and the school is now out about $2,400 worth of your tax dollars.

But possibly the most disturbing part is that the iPads came from a room for special education classes. For Daniels, that especially hits close to home.

“He (her son) has narcolepsy and ADHD,” Daniels said.

Her son has taken special education classes since first grade.

“He uses computers and iPads as part of his learning. So that (the theft) really bothers me,” Daniels said.

Eskins is charged with grand larceny, but more charges including destruction of property are expected.

The Boone County superintendent says Eskins is still employed by the Board of Education, but also that this case remains under investigation.

Eskins did not wish to comment from jail on Wednesday.
