SOUTH POINT, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Ohio Highway State Patrol troopers expected to be out in force on New Year's Eve in the push to ensure that impaired drivers are off the road.
"We should have in increased presence of about 50 percent," Ohio Highway State Patrol Lt. Michael Gore said. "The fact is there are more people killed in automobile crashes than there are any kind of weapon."
In many southern Ohio counties, the numbers of impaired driving arrests are up in 2012.
Lawrence County had 373 arrests for the year, compared to 335 in 2011.
Gallia County had 167 arrests for the year, compared to 134 in 2011.
Meigs County had 71 arrests for 2012, compared to 65 the year before.
