SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A Dayton man made a plea deal Monday, the day his trial was supposed to start.

Sly D. Hollins, 21, was supposed to go to trial Monday in Scioto County on drug charges. Instead, he pleaded guilty to two counts of trafficking in heroin.

Hollins was arrested in July 2012 by the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force. Investigators say he was on his way to Portsmouth to make a heroin delivery.

Hollins and Ralph Jones, of Portsmouth, were arrested after being pulled over and 30 grams of heroin and a .44 caliber handgun were found in the vehicle.

Investigators got a warrant to search the motel room the two were staying in and found 20 more grams of heroin and %1556 in cash.

Prosecuting Attorney Mark Kuhn says Dayton has been the source of the burgeoning heroin traffic into Scioto County. "Since the closing of the pill mills, heroin has been largely replaced by oxycodone as the primary drug of abuse in the the county. Much of the heroin is brought by dealers from Dayton," Kuhn said.

Hollins was sentenced to ten years in prison.

Jones has been indicted for his role in the heroin trafficking.
