UPDATE: Mental Evaluation Ordered for Murder Suspect

BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A man accused of choking his friend to death will undergo a mental evaluation.

Charles Wilhere, 45, of Ashland, is charged with the murder of Aaron Adkins, 29.

Kentucky State Police said Wilhere choked Adkins during a fight on Fairway Drive in Ashland on May 26.

According to family members, Adkins was visiting from Indiana for the Memorial Day weekend.

During a hearing Monday, a judge granted Boyd Commonwealth's Attorney David Justice's motion to have Wilhere examined at the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center.

Justice also tells WSAZ.com that Wilhere's $250,000 bond has been revoked.

A preliminary hearing scheduled for Wednesday is will likely to be cancelled.

Wilhere remains in the Boyd County Detention Center.

There is no word on when the mental evaluation will take place.

ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Kentucky State Police are investigating an assault that led to the death of an Ashland man.

KSP says they received a call about 2:50 a.m. Monday after the Boyd County Sheriff's Office responded to a possible shooting on Fairway Drive in Ashland.

When they got on scene, they found that Charles P. Wilhere, 45, and Aaron Adkins, 29, both of Ashland, had gotten into a fight.

"Absolutely shocked because that's nothing like this community, nothing you'd ever expect from this area," said Edward Cook, a neighbor.

Family members said Adkins grew up on Fairway Drive.

They said the two men were friends, and Adkins was in town from Indiana visiting for Memorial Day weekend.

Investigators say that during the fight, Wilhere choked Adkins to death.

"Be much in prayer for this family because it has devastated them," Cook said.

Wilhere was arrested and charged with murder. He is being held in the Boyd County Detention Center.

Adkins' body will be sent to Frankfort for an autopsy.

At this time, a motive has not been released.

Kentucky State Police, the Boyd County Sheriff's Office, the Boyd County Coroner's Office and the Cannonsburg Fire Department assisted in the investigation.

ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A murder investigation is underway in Ashland, Kentucky.

Kentucky State Police tell WSAZ.com that Charles Wilhere, 45, admitted to troopers that he choked Aaron Adkins to death at a home on Fairway Drive overnight.

Adkins was 29 years old.

It is still early in the investigation and troopers are still trying to determine a motive to the murder.

Wilhere is being held in the Boyd County Detention Center on a murder charge.

BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A death investigation is underway after a man died, and another person is currently being questioned.

Boyd County Emergency Dispatchers tell WSAZ.com they were alerted of a shooting about 2 Monday morning.

Kentucky State Police tell WSAZ.com a man has died, and a person was in custody being questioned. That person was not under arrest.

The Boyd County Sheriff's Department is investigating.
