Dog Survives Rock and Mudslide in Floyd County, Ky.

GRETHEL, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Darcy Howell of Grethel has a dog named "Lucky."

One look at the video captured on his home surveillance camera and you understand why.

"It all just happened so quickly," Howell said. "It's amazing he's OK, just shaken and scared."

The video shows mud and rocks sliding down with such force off the side of the mountain that they demolished a shed and kennel and buried a boulder more than a foot deep in the side yard.

Lucky was in his kennel, with nowhere to go. If you look closely at the video, you can see the dog try to run out of the way. Instead, though, he gets swallowed up by the mud.

In just a few seconds, he claws his way to the top and seeks
shelter in what's left of the kennel.

The rock slide happened Monday evening after severe weather brought heavy rain and rising water in parts of Floyd County.

Lucky's video has been "shared" and "liked" over and over on Facebook, and all the attention caught the Howell family by surprise.

"I'm sure grateful for everyone's thoughts, concerns and prayers for us," Darcy said. "I'm just hoping this kind of thing doesn't happen to anyone else."
