CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- When disasters happen, most people like to help those in need however possible. Now you can help with just "one click."

Many people who escaped the devastation caused by the derecho on June 29 pitched in to donate clothing, furniture, household items and other goods. Some donated their time to clean-up homes and yards, and some donated money to voluntary agencies working hard to help disaster survivors.

According to a release from FEMA, there's a new easy way for people to donate to disaster recovery. The West Virginia Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (WV VOAD) web site, wvvoad.communityos.org, provides a "one-click" link to web sites where anyone can donate money or volunteer time.

The release goes on to say, for those who prefer to mail a check, make checks payable to West Virginia VOAD Disaster Relief. Mail checks to West Virginia Council of Churches, 2207 Washington St. South East, Charleston, WV 25311.

The donations will be used to help repair homes damaged by the recent disaster, according to the release.

"We have a culture in West Virginia of helping each other in times of need," said Jenny Gannaway, state chair of WV VOAD. "Successful disaster recovery takes many generous hearts and willing hands."

WV VOAD facilitates a collaborative partnership with a number of voluntary organizations and faith-based communities, the West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The partnership ensures efficient delivery of service, while eliminating duplication of effort.
