GALLIPOLIS, Ohio (WSAZ) – The teenage driver of an SUV involved in a deadly crash that killed her passenger has pleaded no contest to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.

Bethany Hackney, 18, of Oak Hill, Ohio, was killed in the single vehicle crash on County Road 57 (Fairview Road) in Gallia County in February 2013.

Brianna Byus, 19, of Gallipolis, was driving that SUV.

Byus entered the plea during a hearing in Gallipolis Municipal Court Tuesday morning.

She was immediately sentenced to one year probation, 50 hours of community service and had her license suspended for 90 days.

The Ohio Highway Patrol said Byus lost control, crossed the centerline, hit a ditch and overturned the vehicle.
