CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Road construction projects are popping up all over the place and state leaders want to remind drivers to slow down in work zones.

State leaders and local contractors were at the West Virginia State Capitol Friday to promote work zone safety.

They talked about the importance of driving carefully around construction projects and reminded drivers about the stiff penalties they'll face, if they are caught breaking the rules.

West Virginia State Police say speeding through a work zone puts lives at risk.

The Department of Transportation has a website where drivers can find out about the construction projects on their commute.
