Drug Investigation in Ashland Ends with 27 People Charged

ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A six-month investigation into drug trafficking in the Ashland area has resulted in 27 people being indicted by a Boyd County Grand Jury.

Ashland Police say the 27 people face more than 40 felony charges.

Fourteen of the people have been arrested.

TICS = Trafficking in a Controlled Substance
PFO = Persistent Felony Offender

  • Erica Steele, 29, of Ashland, 2 counts TICS and PFO
  • Richard Selvage, 30, of Ashland, 2 counts TICS
  • Robert Westmoreland, 34, of Ashland, 2 counts TICS and PFO
  • Julía Smith, 25, of Flatwoods, 1 Count TICS
  • Christine Johnson, 43, of Ashland, 4 counts TICS
  • Jessica Va natter (AKA Jessica Slone), 34, of Ashland, Zcounts TICS and PFO
  • Brian Vanatter, 37, of Ashland, 1 count TICS
  • Joshua Gamble, 27, of Wurtland, 1 count TICS and PFO
  • Joyce Puryear, 37, of Ashland, 1 Count TICS
  • Lisa Adams, 41, of Ashland, 1 count TICS
  • Ronald Bland, 23, of Ashland, 1 count TICS
  • Danny Spurlock, 52, of Catlettsburg, 1 count TICS
  • Crystal Spurlock, 29, of Ashland, 1 count TECS
  • Kirby Boggs, 41, of Ashland, 1 Count TICS

    Police are still looking for 13 people. They are:

  • Ricky Collins, 37, of Ashland, 1 count TICS and PFO
  • Samantha Roberts, 23, of Ashland, 2 counts TICS
  • Edgar Nelson, 47, of Ashland, 2 counts TICS
  • Heather Martin, 33, of Ironton Oh., 3 counts TICS
  • Kathy Gannon, 57, of South Point Oh., 1 count TICS
  • Katrina Harris, 51, of Ironton Oh., 1 count TICS
  • Jerome Elson, 38, of Ashland, 2 counts TICS
  • Clayton Pate, 29, of Ashland, 2 counts TICS
  • Thomas Gamble Jr., 30, of Greenup Ky., 3 counts TICS
  • Roger D. Moore, 51, of Ashiand, 1 count TICS
  • Sharon Bustetter, 47, of Ashland, 1 count TICS
  • James Bailey, 32, of Coal Grove Ohio, 1 count TICS
  • Terence Cochran, 34, of Ashland, 1 count TICS

    Police say the above names have been entered into NCIC as a wanted person.

    Anyone with information on these people is asked to call Ashland Police or 911.

    Lt. Darren Wilson tells WSAZ.com that the arrests should have an immediate impact on curbing drug activity in the area.

    Wilson says most of those indicted are street level dealers. He also says that information they have gotten from some of those under arrest could lead to additional arrests in the future.

    The indictments were handed down December 3 and were sealed until just recently.
