Drug and Prostitution Arrests Made at Huntington Apartment Building

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An apartment building in Huntington is now the focus of a drug and prostitution investigation.

Huntington Police say they have received numerous complaints and tips about drug activity and prostitution at the Flats apartment building in the 600 block of 6th Avenue.

After searching one apartment in the building Wednesday night, two men and one woman were arrested.

According to a news release, 63-year-old Richard Miller was arrested for felony conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance, 24-year-old Brendon Garner was arrested for felony delivery of a controlled substance and receiving/transferring stolen property, and 32-year-old Cynthia Faulkner was arrested for misdemeanor larceny and prostitution.

Police say heroin, crack cocaine, marijuana, prescription medications and a firearm were recovered from the scene, as well as evidence consistent with packaging and delivery of drugs.

Because of the deplorable conditions they saw inside, Sgt. Darin Dempsey says officers were back at the apartment building Thursday along with officials from Fire Department and Health Department.

Dempsey says officials found fire and electrical code violations, and numerous citations were issued..

When asked about the possibility of the building eventually being shut down, Dempsey said “That's always a potential if the violations aren't corrected and it's unsafe living conditions."

Mike Ankrom, has owned the building since 2011.

Ankrom tells WSAZ.com with the building being in a troubled area, they've had a hard time trying to make improvements and preventing vandalism.

“We’ve got it under control. We’ll get it taken care of,” Ankrom said.

Ankrom says he plans to have security cameras installed at the building.

Detectives say more arrests are expected.
