HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Drug dealers often operate where you'd least expect.
A big drug bust Monday spanned three counties, with one spot in particular that left parents shaking their heads.
State Police in Kanawha, Wayne and Cabell counties held three separate aerial searches with helicopters spotting for marijuana plants.
Troopers found marijuana being grown in a section of Beech Fork State Park in Wayne County, as well as private property just outside the park.
They found more than a dozen plants there, which they say is more than 30 thousand dollars worth.
State Police say they don't have any suspects yet, and the owner of the private property near the park where the drugs were being grown wasn't aware of those plants.
Sgt. M.T. Smith says it's bad enough growing illegal drugs, but doing it at a public park is especially troubling.
"You definitely shouldn't grow it on someone else's property, especially on public lands, such as a state park, where the community has full access to participate in recreational activities," Smith said.
Monday night Smith said they didn’t have a final tally yet on just how many different patches of marijuana they found in the three counties.
