UPDATE: Vinton County Fire Ruled Arson, Homicide

UPDATE 2/24/12 @ 11 a.m.
VINTON COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A fire earlier this month in McArthur, Ohio has been ruled arson and the death of the homeowner is now being investigated as a homicide.

Thomas Hagerty, 59, died in the fire at his US Highway 50 home. It was reported just after 6 a.m. on February 8.

Investigators have been able to rule out accidental causes and have evidence that the fire was intentionally set.

Details surrounding the fire are not being released at this time since it is a criminal investigation.

A Blue Ribbon Arson Reward of up to $5,000 is being offered to anyone with information about the person, or persons, responsible for the fire.

A vehicle was seen in the area just prior to the fire. It is described as a dark color, mid-size car with three brake lights, one in the rear window and one that wraps around each rear quarter panel.

Anyone with information is asked to call the State Fire Marshal's Office at 1-800-589-2728 or the Vinton County Sheriff's Office at 740-596-5242.

VINTON COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) – Investigators have released the name of the man killed in a house fire in McArthur Wednesday morning.

he State Fire Marshal's Office says Thomas Hagerty, 59, was killed.

The fire happened just before 6 a.m. at his home in the 59000 block of U.S. 50 in McArthur.

The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.

Investigators want to know if anyone saw something out of the ordinary or have heard someone talking about the fire with an unusual level of knowledge or interest.

If you know anything, please call the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office at 740-596-5242.

Debris from the fire has been sent to the Division of State Fire Marshal’s Forensic Laboratory for analysis. Results will be made available to fire investigators within 7 to 10 days.

VINTON COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The State Fire Marshal's Office in Ohio says they don't believe there were any smoke alarms in a home that caught fire early Wednesday morning, claiming the life of a man.

The fire happened just before 6 a.m. at a home on U.S. 50 in McArthur.

According to the State Fire Marshal's Office, one man died in the fire and the home was destroyed.

The victim has been taken to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office to be identified.

At this time, they are still investigating where the fire started.

The McArthur Fire Department, the Hamden Fire Department, the Vinton County Coroner and the Montgomery County Coroner are assisting in the investigation.

The fire happened early Wednesday morning on U.S. 50.

At this time, no other information is being released.

The State Fire Marshal's Office, along with the Vinton County Sheriff and Coroner and the Montgomery County Coroner are investigating the fire.
