UPDATE: Fire Destroys Meat Processing Plant in Jackson Co., W.Va.

SILVERTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A fire destroyed a meat processing and packaging facility in Jackson County, W.Va.

Silverton Fire Chief Jason Baltic tells WSAZ.com the fire broke out around 11:30 a.m. Monday at Sandy Creek Farms on Silverton Road in Silverton.

Baltic says the owner found a fire in the smokehouse inside the facility. He went to get a fire extinguisher, and when he came back, the fire had spread.

He was able to get his employees out safely.

Baltic says when crews got on scene, the fire was spreading through the roof.

The fire is believed to be accidental.

A meat market also located in the building was destroyed.

The Silverton, Ravenswood and Ripley fire departments were on the scene.

SILVERTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A fire has destroyed a meat processing plant and store in Jackson County, West Virginia.

The fire broke out at Sandy Creek Farms on Silverton Road in Silverton about noon Monday.

Firefighters tell WSAZ.com, it doesn't appear anyone has been hurt.

There is no word on what started the fire.
