Fire Safety Training for Kindergarten Students in Barboursville
BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Stop, drop and roll; it's a phrase firefighters have used to teach children what to do if they were on fire.
The Barboursville VFD took that a step further and let 120 kindergarten children go through the smoke house so they would know what to do if their house caught on fire.
Children saw first hand how smoke can fill a room and make it difficult to see, but Andrew Frazier with the Barboursville Fire Department says this is the best way for kids to learn what to do when there is a fire.
"They get to see how the fake smoke spreads across the ceiling, how it comes down, how smoke would be in a real situation so they get the hands on and how to stay low and get out of a house," Frazier said.
Children were also able to get inside an ambulance and fire truck and see the equipment fire fighters use.
