ROSS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A teenager from Lawrence County, Ohio, accused of stealing and crashing a stolen firetruck last week has died from his injuries, according to a county coroner's report.
Brentley Montgomery, 19, was from Lawrence County. The Ross County Sheriff's Office says Montgomery was thrown from the truck in the accident.
The Ohio Highway Patrol says Montgomery was behind the wheel of the 2003 Kenworth tanker fire truck at the time of the crash. It happened Friday in the Harrison Township area of Ross County.
Montgomery was flown to a Columbus hospital.
The Columbus Dispatch cites a coroner's report confirming Montgomery died Monday evening.
Investigators say that fire engine was then totaled in a crash a short time after it was taken from the Harrison Township Fire Department early Friday morning.
The Ohio Highway Patrol says 19-year-old Brentley S. Montgomery was behind the wheel of the 2003 Kenworth tanker fire truck at the time of the crash.
Troopers say the fire truck crashed along Charleston Pike a short distance from the fire station. Troopers say Montgomery was ejected in the crash, and airlifted to a Columbus, Ohio hospital where he remains hospitalized Monday.
Ross County Sheriff George Lavender says surveillance video from the fire station shows Montgomery walking onto the lot of the Fire Department, break a window and then enter the building. Sheriff Lavender says the video also shows Montgomery raise and overhead door in the building and drive away in the fire truck.
No word if and when charges could be filed against Montgomery.
The Highway Patrol says alcohol or drugs could be a factor in the crash
