UPDATE: Owner Believes Thieves Broke into Home, Set it on Fire

ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- An investigation is underway to determine the cause of a house fire in Ashland, but the homeowner believes the fire was intentionally set.

The fire started just before 10 a.m. in the 3200-block of Hackworth Street in Ashland.

Fire crews on the scene tell WSAZ.com that something just didn't look right, so they have started an investigation.

The owners tell WSAZ.com that they believe someone broke into their home and stole several items, including a shotgun, laptop and televisions. They believe that the thief set the house and fire and drove off in a rental truck with their belongings.

The owners were not at home at the time the fire started

Major Mark McDowell with the Ashland Police Department tells WSAZ.com the incident is being investigated as both a burglary and arson.

McDowell says both the police department and fire department are involved in the investigation. He says a number of people are being interviewed, including neighbors..

No one was injured.

ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Fire crews are on the scene of a house fire in Ashland.

The house is in the 3200-block of Hackworth Steet. It was called in just before 10 a.m.

We’re told fire was shooting from the front of the two-story wood frame house as firefighters arrived on the scene.

There are no reports of injuries, and information at this time on how the fire started.
