BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A home has been destroyed after flames ripped through it Friday evening.

Racine firefighters tell WSAZ.com, the fire broke out on Coal River Road in the Bloomingrose section of Boone County.

“It was just popping and cracking and big blazes and black smoke,” neighbor Linda Hapney said Saturday.

Hapney was alerted to the fire by the sirens of the fire trucks.

“It was huge. It scared me to death,” Hapney said.” I thought it might get into my house even.”

Hapney lives just beside the site of the fire.

“I didn't know if anyone was in there and that's what really unnerved me, I thought she might be in there,” Hapney said.

Firefighters say the woman who lives at the home was not home. Officials are investigating the cause and say they have not determined if it was accidental.

The fire departments from Racine and Whitesville responded to the call.
