SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) – A woman from Franklin Furnace, Ohio, has been arrested and charged with child endangerment in a case involving a two-month-old girl.
Scioto County Sheriff Marty Donini says investigators received a call from a Huntington hospital on July 21 concerning an infant being treated for child abuse.
Sheriff Donini says detectives learned the baby’s parents had been feeding the child sugar water in her bottle instead of formula for several days. The baby was placed in a foster home once she was released from the hospital.
Sheriff Donini says after talking to witnesses and obtaining the baby’s medical records, the case was presented to grand jury.
On Monday, deputies arrested Justine Smith, 36, of Franklin Furnace. Smith is being held without bond in the Scioto County Jail.
The Sheriff says there could be more arrests in the case.
