UPDATE 3/22/13 @ 12:40 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Lawmakers want an area in central West Virginia named in honor of two state troopers murdered there.

A unanimous House of Delegate endorsed a measure Friday calling the Interstate 79 interchange at Wallback the State Police Cpl. Marshall Lee Bailey and Trooper Eric Michael Workman Memorial Interchange.

Bailey and Workman were fatally shot in August following a traffic stop near that interchange. Their assailant also shot and wounded a Roane County deputy and a tow truck driver before he was killed in a shootout with other officers.

Family members of Bailey and Workman were joined by State Police Superintendent Col. Jay Smithers and a number of other troopers for Friday's ceremony in the House of Delegates Chamber.

The resolution advances to the Senate.

UPDATE 8/30/12 @ 5:40 p.m.
POCA, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Funeral services have been set for Corporal Marshall Bailey.

Visitation for friends and family will be held on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home in Poca.

On Sunday at 2 p.m., a memorial service will be held at the Charleston Civic Center.

Bailey will then be laid to rest in a family cemetery along Poca River Road.

POCA, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Flags across the state and in Corporal Marshall Bailey's hometown of Poca were lowered to half staff Wednesday.

Ryan Bailey went to high school with his distant cousin Marshall Bailey in the late 80s.

"Everybody knows everybody around here,” Ryan said. “To lose someone like that, it's a tragedy. It's affected everybody. It hurts everybody."

He says his cousin was a natural leader.

"He was one of those guys that was always the tough guy,” Ryan said. “You didn't think you could do anything with him because he was still skinny, but he was a solid player, just played hard."

They say Marshall translated his toughness and eagerness to help others into a career that was his passion with the West Virginia State Police.

"It's a tough job, but I know he loved it," Poca Head Football Coach Bob Lemley said.

Lemley taught and coached Marshall in junior high.

"He was a good guy,” Lemley said. “He was an even-tempered guy. He showed up every day to work. He practiced hard, was a good student. He was fun to be around."

Tuesday night near the Clay and Roane County line, a suspect in a traffic stop was placed under arrest, but he pulled out a gun and opened fire on Corporal Bailey and Trooper Eric Workman.

Bailey died from his injuries.

Workman is on life support.

State Police say Luke Baber is the man who pulled the trigger on the two troopers, along with a tow truck driver and a deputy, who returned a fatal shot.

Coach Lemley, who's dedicated his life to preparing young men for theirs, is unable to make sense of the tragic loss.

“It's a great shock and a waste,” he said. “You just don't understand how something like that could happen."

Poca football players say they’re planning to wear black ribbon stickers on their helmets for the remainder of the season as a tribute to Corporal Bailey.

They’re also planning a ceremony honoring Bailey before their next home game a week from Friday.

A private viewing is scheduled for Saturday in Corporal Bailey's hometown of Poca, with a public memorial planned for Sunday in Charleston.
