GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- This is only a test. That's what Greenup County Emergency Officials are telling WSAZ about the sirens you will hear today starting at Noon.

According to Dennis Bass with Greenup County Emergency Management, the chemical sirens in Wurtland and Greenup are going to be tested Friday between Noon and 12:30 p.m.

A power surge last week at the 911 center has raised some questions, and officials want to check the sirens once again to make sure the county is prepared.

The sirens are normally tested weekly on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Bass tells WSAZ.com that all of the schools and nursing homes in the area have been contacted to make them aware of the test.

Earlier this week, the DuPont plant in Wurtland had an accidental release of sulfuric acid. No one was injured due to the leak. The plant is currently going through its emergency response procedure to refine their notification system.

The sirens will initially be tested individually, and then will be tested together. Again, the sirens you hear between Noon and 12:30 p.m. are just a test.
