Helping Cancer-Stricken Kids Become Queens and Heroes

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Children battling cancer at Cabell Huntington Hospital had the chance to be a queen or hero for a day.
It was all because of the help of volunteers, as well as with loving support from family and friends. Beth Hendricks, a reporter with The Herald-Dispatch in Huntington, was responsible for bringing the national program to home.
The queen and hero for the day is the brainchild of Jenna Edwards, a former beauty queen from Mississippi. Ten years later, it’s still going strong and local chapters are popping up.
Hendricks hopes it’s the first of many local queens and heroes parties. She’d like to see the event come to local hospitals four times a year.
