Here We "Snow" Again

Little Snows Make Olympic Debut

It’s the first weekend of the Winter Olympics in Sochi Russia and the weather here at home will be the kind the athletes and fans would love to see on the Black Sea in Asia; namely cold and snow showery.

Mind you the snows that fall this weekend will not amount to much, but a few coverings are likely before the Monday morning school bell.

The first shot of snow will ride a fast jet stream wind pattern from Arkansas (Friday night) into our region and arrive for the first light of Saturday. It appears it will snow for a three hour period centered around 9 AM (so in the 6am until noon time slot) with just enough accumulation for roads to turn slick.

Odds favor a bit more snow for southern sections (I-64 and south) perhaps a half inch versus just a dusting for ice and snow bound Ohio and Northern Kentucky as this first weekend accretion moves in and out in a heart beat.

Morning travelers before 10am will find untreated roads slippery in spots though by late morning conditions will trend damp from the combination of the end of the falling snow, the sun invisibly penetrating the clouds and salt crews doing their work.

By mid afternoon only the whitened cars, grass and trees will show the effects from the morning fluttering snowfall.

After an afternoon-evening break, the next round of light snow will arrive late Saturday night into Sunday morning. This time there is a better chance of a light deposit of snow and slick roads for areas to the north including most of Southern Ohio and Central WV.

The snow pipeline is likely to turn on again Sunday night into Monday when a third light snowfall looks to arrive in time to slow down the drive to work and perhaps alter the school schedule.

By mid week, attention will turn to the Gulf where a probable southern storm will be taking shape!

So enjoy the games on NBC and embrace the reality that we are locked in a wintry pattern through the 22nd Olympiad!
