ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- State highway crews throughout eastern Kentucky are applying salt brine to roadways in preparation for a winter storm this week.
Road crews say brine, or saltwater, is a first line of defense when snow falls. It can prevent ice from bonding to the roadway in the first hours of a storm, giving plow and salt truck drivers a “head start” in keeping roads clear.
Motorists should watch for slow-moving spray trucks and other vehicles today on Interstate 64, AA Highway, US 23, US 60, US 68, KY 32, and other routes in Kentucky Department of Highways District 9’s counties of Bath, Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Greenup, Lewis, Mason, Nicholas and Rowan.
