Hiring Our Heroes

ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate for members of the U.S. Armed forces who served in the military any time since September 2001 stands at 9.9 percent.

The jobless rate for all veterans stands at 7.7 percent.

They are our nations heroes who've answered one call for help.

Now they want to answer the call on a help wanted sign.

A "Hiring our Heroes" job fair took place Friday at Boyd County High School.

Members of the armed forces say they already have a skill set that is built in.

Veteran and Captain James Schmitz said some of his men are having a difficult time finding work.

"The benefits they get from hiring veterans, I think they get someone who is a hard worker, they get someone who understands the chain of command someone who is used to responsibility and accomplishing missions," he explained.
