MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The Lambert family has had their pet Yorkie Bridget for six years. But they say she was taken from their home along State Route 325, just outside of Danville, Ohio, during a burglary Thursday.
“I looked under the beds because usually she comes running when we come home, and we thought well maybe she was scared,” Cindy Lambert said.
Lambert says when she and her husband got home from work Thursday night, their front door was standing wide open. And whoever had broken in pulled right up to it and walked away with their stuff: tools, TVs, jewelry and their pet Yorkie, Bridget.
Her husband spent the day going from Gallipolis, to Jackson, to Athens, checking pawn shops and pet stores trying to find her.
“It was his baby,” Lambert said. “Big guy-- just broke down and cried. And he said, 'They'll be sorry.' You know. That's like taking your kid.”
Meigs County Sheriff Robert Beegle says there have been a lot of burglaries in the area recently. He says to report any suspicious activity immediately and talk to each other.
“What they know themselves may not be important, but when they're talking to someone else they'll get some information that will tie in,” Beegle said. “And that's just like reporting information to us.“
The Sheriff's Office is still investigating this case.
Beegle says he can't guarantee that the dog was stolen and didn't just wander outside through the open door.
But Cindy says there's no way Bridget would've gone outside because she's actually scared of grass.
Investigators dusted the house for fingerprints. Unfortunately, Cindy says they told her whoever did this was wearing gloves. So there's little hope of a match there.
If you see Bridget or have any information on this case, please give the Meigs County Sheriff's Office a call.
