MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Fire crews had to use the Ohio River to help put out a house fire Wednesday afternoon.

The fire was reported about 2:25 p.m. at a home in the Glenwood area of Mason County.

Jamie Dean with the Valley Volunteer Fire Department tells WSAZ.com when they got on scene, the home was fully involved and there was nothing they could do to save it.

Firefighters say they couldn't find a fire hydrant in the area and had to shut down Route 2, put the hose across the road and pump in water from the Ohio River to fight the fire.

Firefighters tell WSAZ.com that the homeowner had just left to go pick up her daughter from school when the fire started. No one was at home when the fire broke out.

At this time, there is no word on what caused the fire. The State Fire Marshal's Office is being called in to investigate.

Route 2 was shut down for a little over two hours as crews pumped water in from the river. It reopened about 4:45 Wednesday afternoon.

The fire was reported about 2:25 Wednesday afternoon.

Dispatchers say the fire is now under control.

Fire departments from both Mason and Cabell Counties were called to scene.

No other information is available at this time, including what time Route 2 will reopen.
