I-64W Reopens after Several Accidents in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The westbound lanes of Interstate 64 in Charleston are back open to traffic after several accidents.

Two accidents were reported about 7 a.m. Wednesday between the Oakwood and Montrose exits.

Police say the first accident happened when a car hydroplaned and then hit the median wall. Then, a semi hit the vehicle.

The second accident happened minutes later when a car tried to avoid the wreck and hydroplaned and was then rear-ended by a SUV.

No one was hurt, but traffic was backed up in the area. Only one westbound lane was open during much of rush hour. Everything was back to normal by 7:50 a.m.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Heavy rain is to blame for several accidents in the Kanawha Valley.

Two accidents have been reported in the westbound lanes of Interstate 64 in Charleston.

Right now, I-64 is down to one lane between the Oakwood exit and Montrose exit.

Police say the first accident happened when a car hydroplaned and then hit the median wall. Then, a semi hit the vehicle.

The second accident happened minutes later when a car tried to avoid the wreck and hydroplaned and was then rear-ended by a SUV.

No one was hurt, but traffic is backed up in the area.

Both accidents happened just before 7 a.m.
