MOREHEAD, Ky. (WSAZ) — A couple already in jail on wanton endangerment charges involving their nine children may face additional charges after the remains of a premature infant were found on their property.
Thursday morning Kentucky State Police said they were called to property belonging to Johnathan Prater and Edith Strange on Igo Road in Rowan County.
Troopers say the Rowan County Department of Social Services had information on the whereabouts of a deceased infant.
During a search of the property the remains were found.
The remains were taken to Frankfort by the Rowan County Coroner for an autopsy.
Prater, 34, and Strange, 35, are currently lodged at the Rowan County Jail following their arrests earlier this month.
Troopers say the couple let their nine children live in what they said were “deplorable conditions” are set to be arraigned Friday afternoon.
The children, ages two months to 17 years, were removed from the residence.
The 2-month-old was admitted to the hospital for treatment of malnutrition, dehydration and hypothermia. A second child was also admitted for malnutrition and dehydration. Four other children were treated and released.
The couple is expected to be in court for a hearing on the original charge Friday morning,
