Escaped Inmates Captured

RICHWOOD, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two inmates who escaped from Denmar Correctional Center in Pocahontas County have been caught.

West Virginia State Police tell WSAZ.com Thomas Pennington and Larry Morehead were caught in Richwood about 10 a.m. Monday.

They were discovered missing on Sunday morning during a regular check.

Warden Mark Williamson says he believes the inmates scaled a chain-link fence at the rear of the prison. There is razor wire at both the top and bottom of the fence.

Pennington, 40, was serving a sentence for first-degree murder and arson charges in Kanawha County.

Morehead, 48, was serving a sentence for sexual assault in Nicholas County.

HILLSBORO, W.Va. (AP) - Authorities are searching for two inmates who escaped from Denmar Correctional Center in Pocahontas County.

Warden Mark Williamson says Thomas Pennington and Larry Morehead were discovered missing early Sunday morning during a regular check.

Williamson says prison officials believe the inmates scaled a chain-link fence at the rear of the prison. There is razor wire at both the top and bottom of the fence.

Electronic message boards along Interstate 64 in Raleigh, Summers and Greenbrier counties are warning motorists to not pick up hitchhikers.

The 40-year-old Pennington was serving a sentence for first-degree murder and arson charges in Kanawha County.

The 48-year-old Morehead was serving a sentence for sexual assault in Nicholas County.

The escape remains under investigation.
