VINTON COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A fire that killed an elderly man in Vinton County, Ohio has been ruled arson.
The Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office announced Friday that the fire on October 19 at a home on Goosecreek Road in South Bloomingville in Vinton County was an arson.
The body of Thomas Jackson, 75, was found inside the home.
The State Fire Marshal's Office eliminated all accidental causes and found specific evidence that the fire was intentionally set.
Because of an ongoing criminal investigation, specific details including how and where the fire started are not being released at this time.
A Blue Ribbon Arson Reward of up to $5,000 is being offered to anyone with information about the person or persons responsible for the fire. Anyone with information should contact the Division of State Fire Marshal at 1-800-589-2728.
The Division of State Fire Marshal is conducting the investigation with the assistance of local authorities
It happened around 5:45 Saturday evening in the Goose Creek area of Laurelville in Vinton County.
Vinton County Sheriff Shawn Justice says deputies were called to the residence about an alarm going off and discovered the fire and body. No one else was in the residence at the time.
Three investigators are still out on the scene on Tuesday.
Sheriff Justice says they are not releasing the name of the victim at this time, per a request from the family.
Investigators are waiting on an autopsy to come back to determine a cause of death.
No word at this time what caused the fire.
