FRANKFORT, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes announced Tuesday that her office received a $2 million grant for military and overseas electronic ballot system.

The money was awarded as part of the Effective Absentee Systems for Elections 2 grant program, which is funded by the Department of Defense. This is the largest state award from the program.

The new system will allow military and voters overseas to register, update their information and vote online.

The Secretary of State's office is in the developmental stages of the project, and it is expected to go into effect for the 2014 General Election.
