CHARLESTON, W. Va. (WSAZ) – Two people are in jail after police found a meth lab in their home along with three young kids.

What police found in a house on Estill Drive in Charleston was enough to cuff the two adults inside.

But they weren’t the only one’s home – young kids were also inside.

"Generally speaking, when you deal with meth or meth busts, generally you're talking about the more rural settings -- but it's not that uncommon to have meth being created, being manufactured inside the city limits of Charleston and this was the case," said Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Plants.

Kevin Hodskins and Brittany Wright were charged with operating a meth lab after police executed a search warrant at their home.

They were also each charge with three counts of child neglect creating risk of injury.

"It's highly toxic, in fact, you don't want to go anywhere near it, it's very dangerous," said Plants.

In the house, along with the drugs, were three kids – ages one, one and a half and six.

The kids had to be taken to the hospital to get decontaminated before being turned over to Child Protective Services.

Police also found exposed syringe needles, razor blades and white powder residue on spoons in the house.

"It's absolutely unacceptable -- I mean we have a moral obligation to take care of those who can't take care of themselves. In this case when you've got people who are breaking the law, creating very dangerous chemicals that people are going to ingest is one thing, doing it in front of a child, endangering their children’s' lives it totally unacceptable. And, of course, we'll move forward based on the evidence with the prosecution," said Plants.

The pair is also linked to a number of car break-ins in South Charleston from earlier this month that are still being investigated.
