UPDATE: Arrest Made in Huntington Convenience Store Robberies

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Police say they have arrested one of the masked men who robbed a Huntington convenience store twice in the past few weeks.

Both robberies happened at the Speedway in the 2400 block of 3rd Avenue. The first on May 27 and the latest June 4.

Huntington Police have charged Derek Byrd, 26, of Huntington, with two counts of 1st degree robbery.

In both robberies, police say Byrd and another man threatened an employee with a gun. The pair then got away with an unknown amount of money and several cartons of cigarettes. The pair had their faces covered with bandannas in both robberies.

According to the criminal complaint, Byrd confessed to the robberies.

He is expected to be arraigned in Cabell County Magistrate Court sometime on Thursday.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Police are looking for the two masked men who robbed a convenience store in Huntington early Wednesday morning.

Police believe the same two men robbed the store last month.

The latest armed robbery happened just before 1:30 a.m. at the Speedway in the 2400 block of 3rd Avenue.

The store manager told police, that he had just gone outside to empty the garbage when the suspects followed him back into the store and demanded money from the register.

At least one of the men had a handgun.

Both men were wearing black clothing, and had face masks on.

While in the store one of the men followed the manager behind the counter and attempted to get into the safe, but was unsuccessful.

The men fled the store to the rear alley.

No one was hurt.

The previous armed robbery happened on May 26.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- There was a late night robbery at a convenience store in Huntington.

A Cabell County 9-1-1 dispatcher told WSAZ.com that it happened about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Speedway on 3rd Avenue and 24th Street.

The dispatcher said it's not been determined whether the person had a weapon.

No arrests have been made.

Huntington Police is investigating the robbery.
