Local VFW Post Under Investigation

GUYANDOTTE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- WSAZ has obtained a letter that was sent out to all 509 members of the VFW Post 9738 in Guyandotte. In the letter, West Virginia VFW Commander James Richison has strong words for the post.

Richison states that due to the "disgraceful financial situation", Post 9738 will be suspended for a period of 90 days. Richison also states that he has relieved the Commander and Quartermaster at the post.

According to the letter, the state's investigation uncovered about $50,000 worth of missing monies and property from the post, and that the Post Officers failed to honestly report it to the Post's members.

Richison states in the letter that the survival of Post 7938 is completely in the member's hands. He says without the member's support, his department will be forced to revoke the Post's charter with the VFW.

We tried to speak with the manager of the VFW Post 9738, but she declined to speak on camera.
