Loretta Lynn Honored with Presidential Medal of Freedom

WASHINGTON (WSAZ) -- Country music legend Loretta Lynn was among recipients honored Wednesday at the White House by President Barack Obama with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Known to most as "The Coal Miner's Daughter," an autobiographical song Lynn wrote about her childhood and was later adapted into a Hollywood film of the same name, Lynn was among a group of esteemed recipients.

Others included former President Bill Clinton, media mogul Oprah Winfrey and astronaut Sally Ride.

Lynn, 81, is originally from Van Lear, Ky., which is in Johnson County.
